About Mr. Soros
George Soros, the founder of Open Society Foundations, is one of the most generous Hungarian philanthropists in the world. Born in 1930, he had to pass through the harsh Nazi Occupation (1944-1945). This resulted in the murder of more than half a million Hungarian Jews. Although this had put his life at risk, he was lucky to make it through.
- Soros was very industrious and focused. For instance, he had to work partly as a waiter and partly as a railway porter which enabled him to support his education. This was in London at the London Economics School. He later moved to the United States where he started investing as a young entrepreneur.
How George started helping others
His commitment to aiding others became elaborate during Nazi Occupation tyranny where he helped others to survive. He did this through helping them to secure false identity documents that concealed their identities. As he recalls, he was glad to empower his community members thus facilitating their survival. In 1970, George Soros successfully launched Soros Fund Management which was his hedge fund. It made him one of the most reputable investors in the US. After accumulating enough wealth, he didn’t use it for his gain as many investors would have. Instead, he used his wealth to start a worldwide network of partners, projects and foundations serving more than a hundred countries called Open Society Foundations.
The most substantial donation ever made since he started his philanthropic deeds
In 2017, Mr. George Soros made one of the most significant fund transfers in the history of world’s private donations. He donated $ 18 billion to the Open Society Foundations which made the philanthropic organization shoot to the peak making it the second-largest in the US.
The $ 18 billion donations, however, was highly criticized by the Republican. The party claimed that this was aimed at making Ireland a “pro-abortion nation” and also undermining the European countries’ control over their borders.
Open Society, which aims at promotion of human rights and democracy, was founded in the 80’s. It serves more than 100 countries as earlier mentioned. However, it has focused most of its attention to the US where they have developed numerous programs to fight for the rights of lesbians and gays thus reducing their abuse by the police and other people. Ever since it was founded, this organization has donated more than $ 30 billion. In 2014, it financed several treatment centers in the US during the Ebola outbreak. Also, it bequeathed $ 10 million to prevent hate crimes and violence after the 2016 elections. Mr. Soros’s donations are uncountable. What’s common is that his generous financial aids aim to eradicate the most intractable problems that the world experiences.
