George Soros is one of the most prosperous investors in the world. He is also a renowned businessman, author, and a philanthropist. He is the founder and owner of Open Society Foundation which was established back in 1979. The Open society Foundation focuses on fighting issues of injustice and discrimination. It also largely focuses on supporting democracies and several other causes. Through his leadership, the Open Society Foundation has funded, and supported organizations and individuals throughout the world committed to fighting for freedom of expression and responsible government. The Foundation has also greatly supported individuals and societies that help promote justice and equality.

The Foundation has also supported many unwell-off but performing students by providing them with school and university fees. The Foundation is also dedicated to helping those people who face discrimination as from whom they are. It has helped groups and societies that represent Europe’s Roma people and other people such as sex workers and drug users. George Soros was born on August 1930 in Budapest, Hungary. In 1947, he left Budapest and went to London. At London, he went to the London School of Economics where he graduated with a degree in Economics. He also holds a master of philosophy. He worked as a waiter in a nightclub and a railway porter and to be able to support his studies. He began his career in business by working at various merchant banks in England. He later moved to the United States in 1956 where he worked as an analyst and a manager in several firms such as F.M. Mayer from 1956 to 1959. In 1969, he started his own Hedge Fund which provided him with enough capital to start Soros Fund Management, which was founded in 1970.

George Soros, the hedge fund billionaire, has recently donated $18 billion to his Open Society Foundation. The NY Times states that the transfers would help promote democracy and fight discrimination and intolerance across the world. From NY Times, the donation has made the Open Society Foundation the second largest philanthropic foundation by assets in the United States. The NY Times also describes this donation as one of the largest donation of wealth in the world ever made by an individual to a single foundation.

The Open Society Foundation announced that the donation would help fund the future work of the foundation. It also stated that this $18 billion donation has totaled his giving to the foundation to more than $30 billion since 1984. The Open Society Foundation also states that George Soros has gone beyond his foundation. He has supported and funded other organizations such as the European Council on Foreign Relations, the Institute for New Economic Thinking, the Global Witness, and the International Crisis Group.

The Forbes describes George Soros as a legend in hedge fund management. In New York, he has handled client money from 1969 to 2011. It also states that George Soros remains a heavy investor through the Soros Fund Management, a family foundation which owns assets of approximately $26 billion, and George Soros’s lacrosse camp.
